I was in an incredibly deep and luscious sleep this morning when movement from The Hubby woke me up. I contemplated going back to sleep - I peeked at the clock, it was only 7:05, but then I remembered my 60 Day Challenge. Since I had an oncology appointment this morning at 10, I needed to make sure I had enough time to do the kriya, meditation, and laya kriya in its entirely and still have time to blog and get ready for my appointment. It's amazing what a 60 Day challenge can do to that inner voice inside your head telling you to sleep in. Not that sleeping in is bad. We are in the autumn season and sleeping is great and highly advised as the days get shorter and the nights grow longer. But I digress.
I am doing the bare minimum of this ritual right now. And most of it is because of my lack of core strength. Each of the 14 movements have the suggested length of 1-3 minutes, which is a perfect length of time to get one out of their own head and into their body. The first two movements are all about the core however, and I can't even hold it for the one minute required. Work in progress, right? The first movement is called "Stretch pose", where you lie on your back with your arms at your sides. You raise your head and legs six inches off of the floor, then you do the breath of fire for 1-3 minutes. Challenging? Yes, quite. What I find happening is that my core strength just gives out and I need to take a rest. I feel heat building up in my head and neck, and my mind all of sudden entices me with thoughts of rest and pause.
So, this sets the pace for the rest of the ritual. And I think I kinda love it. What a great way to overcome self limiting thoughts than with a core strengthener right off the bat? So I figure, I'll build up slowly. I have 58 more days to go - plenty of time to do so. I set a timer on my phone app for 1:10 (the ten seconds is time for me to adjust my body into the next position). Once I'm able to hold the Stretch Pose for that 1:10, then I'll increase the clock timer.
One day at a time, one breath at a time.
